Haunted pub in running for award

An historic Dorset pub has made it through to the national finals of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) awards.

The Boot in Weymouth has been voted top Wessex pub in the regional heats of the CAMRA competition.

The pub dates back to around 1600, and is thought to be the oldest public house in the town.

During the English Civil War the street outside became the scene of a bloody battle and the pub is said to be haunted by at least five ghosts.

Landlord Giles Embley said they were "chuffed to bits" with the news.
