Events: International Napoleonic Weekend at Kingston Maurward - Saturday 3rd October & Sunday 4th October 2009

Following our successful 2008 Regency Weekend, we have put together another fantastic line up for this 200th Anniversary weekend, celebrating the year of 1809. We now have both the return of The French Infantry from Napoleon Bonaparte's Imperial Army and the famous 95th Rifles, as seen in "Sharpe". We have also got the Sharpe Appreciation Society with many items used during the filming of the series For those of you who want a "behind the scenes" look at the filming, Jason Salkey (AKA Rifleman Harris) will be selling his video diaries. . New this year, are the Royal Armouries original working Napoleonic Guns, which will be giving live firing demonstrations during the weekend. As an additional attraction, we have got an Education day on Friday, October 2nd, and also a Regency dining experience as a ticketed Friday evening extra. For more information on the dinner, please contact the Banqueting Manager on 01305 215050.

For the weekend we have a celebration of Regency music, dance, and games, together with an open invitation to a Regency picnic in the formal gardens. We also have the 16th International Napoleonic Fair being held in the Georgian mansion, built in 1720 for George Pitt, after he married into the last of the Grey family, who owned the great Elizabethan Manor house, which is now privately owned. The extensive grounds will also host the Military re-enactments and living history encampments, bringing the area alive with the sound of Napoleon and Wellington's soldiers. Come and learn about the Napoleonic Wars, and meet up with Bonaparte's men, or talk to a redcoat or rifleman from Wellington's Peninsula War army, before they embark to Portugal. There will be a battle display, as well as drill demonstrations, and a chance to wander through the military camps and experience what camp life was like during the period. This year, we have got an Education day on Friday, October 2nd designed to encourage schools to get involved, and visit free during the day for an introduction to the Georgian Period, to include presentations on Costume, battlefields, and history of social aspects of the period.
