Events: The 17th International Napoleonic Weekend at Kingston Maurward: 24th - 26th September 2010

Following their successful 2009 International Napoleonic Weekend, Pike And Shot Events Limited have put together another fantastic line up for this 200th Anniversary weekend, celebrating the year of 1810.

Once again they have both the return of The French Infantry from Napoleon Bonaparte's Imperial Army and the famous 95th Rifles, as seen in "Sharpe". The extensive grounds will also host the Military re-enactments and living history encampments, bringing the area alive with the sound of Napoleon and Wellington's soldiers. Come and learn about the Napoleonic Wars, and meet up with Bonaparte's men, or talk to a redcoat or rifleman from Wellington's Peninsula War army, before they embark to Portugal. There will be a battle display, as well as drill demonstrations, and a chance to wander through the military camps and experience what camp life was like during the period. They hope to bring you working Napoleonic Cannon once again, so you can experience a firing demonstration during the weekend.
They will also have the Sharpe Appreciation Society with many items used during the filming of the series For those of you who want a "behind the scenes" look at the filming, Jason Salkey (AKA Rifleman Harris) will be selling his video diaries, plus his audio CD of "The Recollections of Rifleman Harris" (A review of this audio CD can be found on the Reviews page of the Dark Dorset Website).

As an additional attraction, they are hosting a Grand Regency Ball as a ticketed Friday evening extra, together with an opportunity to join in with Regency games and exclusive dining with a Period Buffet. For more information on the evening event please contact us on 01305 855817 or to book tickets go to Ticket Office Tickets available at £50 per head, with discounts available for parties of 10 or more (Call for details).

So join the celebration of the Regency period, with music, dance, and games, together with an open invitation to a Regency picnic in the formal gardens.
2010 will once again see the return of the long standing International Napoleonic Fair in it's 17th year, being held in the Georgian mansion. Many different items can be bought, from books, maps, and pictures, to complete Regency costumes to leather belts, swords and replica firearms (restrictions apply). They are being supported in this venture by several publishing houses and book specialists. So come and shop for an early Christmas gift.
This year, subject to ticket sales, they hope to be celebrating with some additional lectures, book signings, and talks for the public on both military and Georgian civilian life and times during the Napoleonic and Regency Period to include presentations on Costume, battlefields, and history of social aspects of the period, as well as the literature of Jane Austen.
